Overview

The scope of the professional master’s programme in Sports Management is 90 or 120 ECTS credits, which depends on the prior education of the candidate. Courses are organised in modules.

The master’s study programme comprises mandatory courses (Part A and part B) and limited elective courses (Part C). The mandatory Part A includes the preparation and defending of the master’s thesis (30 ECTS credits), internship (39 or 9 ECTS credits) and theoretical study courses (45 ECTS credits).

The limited elective Part C (6 ECTS credits) offers students an opportunity to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge based on their interests, from a selection of courses provided as part of the programme.

Programme structure

The professional master’s study programme in Sports Management will also include the participation of individual research papers by students (published research articles, presentations at scientific conferences) in the research projects of the Latvian Council of Science, and the RISEBA Faculty of Business and Economics.

The programme was developed in consultation and in conjunction with representatives of employers such as the Latvian Olympic Committee, various athletics federations and associations, as well as related study programmes in universities abroad.

The programme is delivered by academic staff experienced both in teaching (including in universities in other countries) and participating in international research, as well as by visiting lecturers and instructors who develop strategies, make and implement decisions in sports federations and institutions as their main field of activity.

Career opportunities

The programme is geared towards preparing top-level managers, experts and specialists in sports management, and improving its quality. Based on the expertise of the instructors of this programme and their experience in research, as well as the inclusion of students in ongoing affairs pertaining to managing sports activities, the programme makes it possible to acquire extensive knowledge and the skills necessary for successfully working at all levels of sports entities, including those operating on a local, EU and international scale. Graduates who successfully meet the requirements for completing their programme and defend their master’s thesis are awarded a professional master’s degree in Sports Management and the qualification of an Organization Manager.
