Please write a brief motivation letter (in English, maximum of 4 600 characters with spaces) based on the following points: *genetics and biotechnology 1. Which of the three specialisations interests you most and why? 2. Which elective courses would you like to take? (Elective courses need to be chosen from the list of courses of elective module of Science and Technology programme). 3. Why are you particularly interested in this Science and Technology bachelor’s programme? 4. In which role do you see yourself in your future job after completion of the programme and what is your personal motivation to study Science and Technology? 5. Evaluation criteria: · fit between the student’s goals and the programme (40 %) The maximum score for motivation letter is 100 points and the result is positive only if the applicant gains 51 points or more. Only those applicants who score 66 points or higher (out of 100) as a combined score from the motivation letter, mathematics result and science subject result, will be considered for admission. -State exam result or final grade in Mathematics – highest result will be considered, or in case the candidate has not taken Mathematics in high school or wish to improve their result they can apply with SAT Subject test in Mathematics (Level 1 or 2) result (Yields 40% of the final score) |

Overview
Science and Technology is a 3-year bachelor’s programme offering a broad overview of natural and exact sciences and technologies. Students have an option to choose between 3 specialisations: genetics and biotechnology; bioengineering and robotics; chemistry and materials science. After graduating from the programme, students have an option to continue studies in any natural science field or work for technology companies in Estonia and abroad.
Programme structure
Obligatory base modules (48 ECTS) –
courses covering biology, chemistry, mathematics, programming, physics;
Narrow fi eld module (24 ECTS) – courses offering
fi eld knowledge in biochemistry, biology, genetics, electronics and statistics;
Specialisation modules (72 ECTS) – an option to choose one of
three study streams:
Genetics and Biotechnology (72 ECTS) – bioinformatics, genetics,
biotechnology, bio-enterprise, various biology courses;
Bioengineering and Robotics (72 ECTS) – electrical measurements, biomolecular catalysis and signaling, applied synthetic biology, robotics, systems
modeling, physiology, advanced automation, vision analysis, various engineering
courses;
Chemistry and Materials Science (72 ECTS) – spectroscopy, thin fi lm technology,
physical material technologies, industrial heterogeneous catalysis, various chemistry
courses;
Elective module (12 ECTS) – an option to choose from a list of technical courses;
Optional courses (12 ECTS) – all courses provided by UT and other Estonian universities;
Bachelor’s thesis (12 ECTS)
Career opportunities
Graduates of the programme are expected to contribute to the development of technology enterprises in Estonia and abroad. They are wanted in, for example, monitoring centres, various manufacturing enterprises and laboratories as technologically qualified members of the lab staff. The broad education enables to make wise, calculated decisions about continuing studies on master’s level in all natural science and technology specialisations at the University of Tartu and other top universities.
