Entry qualification

High school / secondary education (or higher) • Grades in Mathematics and the English language. • Language proficiency – the level of the language of instruction (i.e. Latvian or English) not lower than B2 (following the Common Framework of Reference for Language approved by the Council of Europe) • Bachelor’s degree or vocational higher education for entering the Master’s degree study programme. The entry qualification documents are accepted in any language Please provide the secondary school leaving certificate in the original language. If the diploma is not issued in English, a certified translation should be provided. The document must be legalised/apostilled. You must take the original entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university. Applicants must upload education documents in original language, as well as translations into English. Diplomas and transcripts issued outside EU must be legalized with a legalization stamp or Apostille. Please, upload in the system scan copies in good quality of your education certificates and diplomas.

Language requirements	English One of next variants, if you have no any of this certificates you can pass University or Baltic Center Exams: Accepted proof of proficiency: FCE or CAE, IELTS 5.5+ or TOEFL 69+ Must be able to present good English knowledge (minimum – CEFR level B2, IELTS score 5.5, TOEFL score 520, TOEFL-iBT score 68 ). An online interview will be organised, if you can not provide any certificate.

Overview

Main areas: marine power plants, ships constructions and structures, theory, operation , maintenance and repair of shipboard marine engines , equipment, systems and auxiliaries, electrical equipment and automatics, energy generation, maritime environment protection, ship technical management including training on the Engine room simulators and in workshops , relevant theoretical maritime and general engineering and maritime English courses.
The programme incorporates a minimum of six-month shipboard training and practical training in shipyards and other shore companies.

Students can apply for Erasmus+ scholarships for study mobility and/or traineeship mobility.

Studies are organised in the form of lectures, seminars, project works and discussion groups.

Students are required to complete the study programme followed by final examinations in specialisation and maritime English, as well as a graduation project.

Career opportunities

A marine engineer or subsequently a chief engineer on merchant or other vessels without limitations, a superintendent or an engineer in maritime or other shore-based companies.
