Overview
The integrated study programme of the branch of pharmacy is a multidisciplinary study programme that includes biomedical, social, and natural sciences. The integrated study programme consists of scientific methodological subjects and the subjects of the branch of pharmacy. The study programme focuses on the development of pharmacists’ practical, managerial and leadership, educational and research competences. A master’s degree in pharmacy indicates a person’s readiness to carry out pharmaceutical activities and scientific research, and to continue university doctoral studies of the chosen specialty. The main aims of the studies are the following: (a) to provide pharmaceutical knowledge and to develop the skills required for pharmaceutical activities in various health care fields using modern technologies; (b) to develop the need to follow the topics of medicinal substances extraction, their processing, production of pharmaceuticals, their testing, storing, selling or dispensing, quality assurance and control, pharmaceutical vigilance, rational and safe usage of pharmaceuticals, innovations of pharmaceutical science and practice; © to develop creative, scientific and critical thinking, and the sense of intellectual satisfaction from studies or work; (d) to develop the ability to retain sufficient professional competence via life-long learning.
The Faculty of Pharmacy is the only institution in Lithuania offering pharmacy studies that are integrated with other biomedical sciences and scientific research. The Faculty also is an integral part of the Centre of Modern Pharmaceutical and Health Technologies, where the potential for research, education and knowledge-intensive business will be concentrated. The Pharmacy Section was established in 1922, and the Faculty of Pharmacy founded in 1968. Today, the Faculty is the main teaching institution for pharmacists in Lithuania and consists of 5 departments and the University’s Pharmacy. The number of students enrolled is more than 700, including 10 international students. Undergraduate courses are available to international students in English.
