The need for the Master’s study programme in Agricultural Business Management and its contents is related to:
a) changes in the agricultural business system that are presupposed by Lithuanian, international, and global processes and difficult political and economic
decisions in the land and food sectors;
b) labour market demands (employers are offered limited choice of highly qualified agricultural business managers. The aim of this programme is to train
top level career specialists and agricultural business managers);
c) students’ needs (the students are mostly interested in acquiring second cycle university education, to seek employment in line with the acquired
qualification with agricultural production and related infrastructure businesses and organisations, agricultural system management and self-management
bodies, high schools and research institutes, to continue in doctoral studies, and to start their own agricultural business);
d) the mission statement of Aleksandras Stulginskis University says: „to develop and disseminate scientific knowledge and sincerely strive for safe and
healthy food and full-fledged living environment for all citizens of Lithuania”;
e) analysis of experience of Lithuanian and foreign universities: due to its structure and the contents of its subjects, which is focused on agribusiness, the
programme is substantially different from the second cycle study programmes in the field of Management offered by other Lithuanian universities;
f) experience of foreign universities: mobility programmes provide Master’s students with opportunities to continue their studies and improve their
knowledge at universities in other countries.
In line with the acquired qualification, the graduates of the second cycle programme of Agricultural Business Management can seek employment in the
positions of top level career specialists, experts, consultants, executives, and managers with international and national agricultural and related
infrastructure businesses and organisations in the private and public sector, to take up their own business or to engage in project and consulting activities.
The graduates can continue with doctoral studies at Lithuanian or foreign universities and obtain the PhD degree in Social Sciences.
