Overview

The programme “Russian Philology” is meant for students, who seek in-depth knowledge of the Russian language and literature. The core of the programme consists of the courses devoted to the history of the Russian language and its contemporary state, to the Russian folklore and Slavic mythology, to the history of Russian literature (from old to modern). Moreover, the students are encouraged to study the second Slavic language – Polish or Czech. In addition, the programme includes the courses that will improve students’ written and oral skills: seminars on speech technique, on production of journalistic, critical, advertising and creative texts. The programme envisages students’ mobility within the framework of Erasmus in the institutions of higher education of Estonia (Tartu and Tallinn Universities), Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Germany, and many others. After successful completion of the programme, graduates may pursue further studies in the Master’s degree programme ‘Russian Philology” or in any other relevant programme.

• Module of Criticism and Social Journalism

Career opportunities

Graduates of the programme will be able to work in newspaper and magazine editorial offices, publishing houses, translation and interpreting agencies in Latvia and Europe, in schools and colleges, on radio and TV, in tourist agencies, in embassies and diplomatic missions of the Slavic states.
