For yearsGermany and the UK in Europe as well as the United States and Canada in North America, have been dealing with a chronic driver shortage, but the pandemic has exacerbated the situation, sending demand for shipped goods skyrocketing while sparking an increase in early retirements. The ramifications have been both dire and far-reaching. The transportation industry in all these regions and countries offers tremendous opportunities for young people to work as employees or small business owners. Lately, New Zealand is facing same shortage as other countries.

Germany alone is about 40,000 truck drivers short every year, with an upward tendency. Canada needs about 22000 long haul Truck drivers currently. The problem in the USA is much worse. The USA needsmore than 80,500 long-haul truck drivers currently as reported inthe latest estimates.The long-haul driver shortage is one of the leading problems in the trucking industry in the USA, with an estimated 80,500 drivers needed in 2021. By 2030, this number is predicted to reach 162,000. As per RHA of the UK, there is a shortage of 100,000 HGV drivers in the UK. So Trucking is a promising, quick, and well-paid career in all these countries. In New Zealand as per latest estimates of la Ara Aotearoa the country needs more than 7000 drivers currently.

This one-and-a-half-yeartraining in Transportation Technology (Logistics) will prepare you to pursue in-demand job opportunities in a critical industry. The Transportation Technology – Logistics(DTTL) program will train you with the skills you need to get a high-paying highly in-demand job. DTTLwill help students in finding, in-demand job opportunities in logistics, transportation, customer service, customs coordination, and other supply chain processes. A co-op work term will give you valuable work experience to add to your resume.

The DTTL is full-time with a co-op and is available in a traditional in-class format with a year-round admission system.

This course will provide students with an in-depth understanding of distribution logistics, dispatcher work in passenger transport, and route planning in passenger transport. Students will also develop their skills in information and communication technologies at both level 1 and level 2, to support their work in logistics and transport operations management.

This program has a Co-op portion for 6 months based on OCMA regulations. (Conditions apply*) *OCMA regulates international student working hours, and any work including Co-op portion must be legal within allowed time periods.
